Waratah Super Battery Enabling Works

PROJECT: Waratah Super Battery Enabling Works
CLIENT: Transgrid
LOCATION: New South Wales
YEAR(S): 2023-2024
SCOPE: To design, manufacture and deliver 330kV Current Transformers, Capacitive Voltage Transformers and Power Voltage Transformers
BACKGROUND:

In response to the anticipated closure of Eraring Power Station, the NSW Minister for Energy under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act directed the Waratah Super Battery Enabling Works to be constructed. It consists of:

• A System Integrity Protection Scheme (SIPS) – The SIPS is designed to monitor transmission lines and enable the WSB to act as a ‘shock absorber’ in the event of any sudden fault on the transmission system. The SIPS will monitor thirty-six 330 kV transmission lines for overloads. To enable the SIPS to operate, monitoring equipment will be installed at 16 substations and a control system will be implemented at a further site.

• Augmentation works at 22 substations throughout the network.

• Augmentation works at four 330 kV transmission lines to unlock additional capacity on a total of twenty-five 330 kV transmission lines.

As a long-standing supplier to Transgrid, GFF Power/Arteche were chosen to provide all the 330kV current transformers, capacitive voltage transformers and power voltage transformers needed for the completion of the project.

SERVICES PROVIDED

  • Design, manufacture and supply of Arteche current transformers, voltage transformers and power voltage transformers.
  • Ongoing project management, including provision of regular updates relating to anticipated delivery timeline.
  • Complete logistical assistance covering international freight, port clearance and delivery to site, including unloading.
  • Technical support as required by Transgrid throughout the project.

OUTCOMES
All equipment was produced to Transgrid’s specifications, manufactured in-line with the agreed schedule, and safely delivered to site per the project required timelines.
