Culcairn Solar Farm

PROJECT: Culcairn Solar Farm

CLIENT: Transgrid

LOCATION: New South Wales

YEAR(S): 2024-2025

SCOPE: To design, manufacture and deliver 330kV Arteche Power Voltage Transformers, Capacitive Voltage Transformers and Current Transformers

BACKGROUND:

Culcairn Solar Farm is a large-scale renewable energy development located in southern New South Wales, approximately 40 km north of Albury in Wiradjuri Country. Developed by Neoen and constructed by Bouygues Construction, the farm is one of the largest solar projects in the state, with a capacity of 440 MWp / 350 MWac, capable of powering 160,000 homes annually. The project is backed by a Long-Term Energy Services Agreement under the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap and a four-year Power Purchase Agreement with SmartestEnergy, providing financial certainty and supporting the state’s clean energy transition.

To connect the solar farm to the National Electricity Market, Transgrid is delivering critical transmission infrastructure, including a 330kV connection.

As part of this initiative, GFF Power/Arteche were selected to supply 330kV Arteche Power Voltage Transformers, Capacitive Voltage Transformers, and Current Transformers, tailored to Transgrid’s specifications.

The project involved comprehensive logistical coordination, with transformer deliveries scheduled during peak construction in early 2025. Substation works progressed rapidly, and commissioning began in mid-2025, with full operation expected by 2026.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

  • Design, manufacture and supply of Arteche power voltage transformers, capacitive voltage transformers and current transformers.
  • Ongoing project management, including provision of regular updates relating to anticipated delivery timeline.
  • Complete logistical assistance covering international freight, port clearance and delivery to site, including unloading.
  • Technical support as required by Transgrid throughout the project.

OUTCOMES:
All equipment was manufactured to Transgrid’s specifications, produced in-line with the agreed schedule, and safely delivered to site per the project required timelines.
